Quick tips for better digestion

Updated: May 1, 2022

This is a very basic/general list of things to do (or not to do), to help your overall digestion. Please consult one with any of these tips listed.

  1. Cook at home instead of going out to eat/eating fast food.

  2. Chew food well. Breaking your food down helps your digestive system not work as much.

  3. Do not eat late at night - your stomach needs time to digest before going to bed.

  4. Do not lay or slouch down after eating.

  5. Go for a walk after eating/exercise in general.

  6. Do not eat when you're stressed or anxious. Here is a short post to read more about it: https://www.sonima.com/food/health-nutrition/stress-eating/

  7. Ensure you're eating enough fiber - soluble and insoluble! This will help your bowels and you will thank me later :)

  8. Ensure you are drinking enough water - it helps break down food and soften stool!

  9. Track to see if any foods you're eating daily are bothering you (dairy, high fats, sugar, sugar alcohols, gluten, gums, etc.)

  10. Prebiotics and probiotics to give your gut good bacteria (talk with your doctor about them!) Other good bacteria include food and drinks such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, and kefir/yogurt.

  11. Add healthy fats to your diet - they help your body absorb nutrients!

  12. Drinking room temp or warmer liquids (not ice cold drinks). Check out this short article: https://www.wellandgood.com/what-carrier-oil/ explains both warmer and colder liquids and how warmer liquids can benefit you.

  13. Apple cider vinegar with water in the morning many say can help your digestion throughout the day, or by drinking ACV and water before each meal.

Short, I know, but I hope this can give you some ideas on what you can start doing today to help your digestion! Let me know if you find any of these helpful to your digestion!

Stay healthy,

Loreal
